A quick eagle update…

Just a quick note about our eagle nests. We have added a new nest to our monitoring sites thanks to the suggestion of one of our local Audubon members. Located in New Smyrna Beach, the well constructed large nest was reported to be occupied and was productive last year. I found the nest but did not notice any activity today. The nest sits high in heavy foliage, so it is admittedly difficult to see any activity which may be occurring deep in the structure. We’ll continue to watch this nest along with the other to see what transpires.

An now BREAKING NEWS!!!! We have BABIES! The Ranken Nest has produced two chicks. Already a healthy size and moving about the nest, we spotted two youngsters, one perched on the edge of the nest and the second tucked down in the cup. I was only able to grab a photograph of the one out in the open, but we will soon get good looks at the other chick in the near future for sure!

So the fun begins. We will keep a sharp eye on all our nests to see how many successes we can garner. We feel like new grandparents! More to come!
