Migrating Broad-winged hawks are generally expected in high numbers at this time of year. Not so much in the past two years, however.

Sparring juveniles eagles made for entertaining hawk watching, but we failed to come up with our target species…the Broad-winged hawks.
Fall feathers….
During this Season of Change, there many signs of birds getting ready for the journey south by molting into a new coat of plumage. We came across three species of birds which have undergone this change.
No Rush to Leave…
While many birds are on the move heading south, some of the birds we found today don’t seem to be in any rush to leave their present digs.
Hawkwatch: Week 2
While we did not find too many hawks migrating south yet, today’s southeast winds blew quite a few resident eagles, hawks, vultures and ravens over the Bear Mt Hawkwatch.

It’s a “Season of Change”, and it’s time to start watching to see how birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects will deal with the changing weather.
Bear Mt Hawkwatch
It’s time for the annual migration of hawks, eagles, ospreys and other birds of prey. We will be up on Bear Mountain on a regular basis for the next three months to try and capture this wonderful time of year.

Nurse logs are old trees that have fallen and lie on the forest floor. As they decay, they provide a suitable habitat that will support the growth of new trees over the decades.
