More on our little eagle…

Juvenile Bald eagle - Jones Point - 1/3/26

Here’s the latest update on our “little” eagle from Jones Point. I reported the sighting to DEC and they responded with a little bit of of the history of our bird. He (?) was banded on November 13, 2024 out on Long Island in the town of Southhampton. He had been struck by a car on October 30, 2024 and was rehabilitated and held until his release.

The report I got from Katherine Yard at DEC said, “it was a rehabilitated bird so it is wonderful to receive confirmation that it’s alive and well”. It is certainly rewarding to find a banded bird and then be able to learn a little snippet of its history. I hope to see the bird again someday along the shores of the Hudson….maybe as a full adult in a few years!!!
